Overview
The Canvas site is used by all Sydney University students, academics and staff. It is crucial that the page gets updated with the latest information and maintain a high-quality visual representation of the University. By understanding user navigation, journeys, and applying University policy and procedures, I strive to deliver the best Canvas sites with the simplest design and easy navigation.

MY ROLE
UX/UI Designer

TOOLS
Canvas, HTML, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop
Problem Brief
How might we engage students to use more of the community sites, such as the Science Student Portal on Canvas?
Objective
The objective of this project was to update the visual look of the Canvas sites by shortlisting images that are formal, polished and professional yet keep it fun, colourful and exciting.
Research
Visuals to match the brand
To short list images that reflect the University of Sydney's online identity, I researched its style, imagery, colour scheme, and voice, using Education Innovation teaching articles as a guide. I designed the banner images to support the Canvas site's professional, exciting, and engaging feel without becoming the main focus.
User experience
To ensure users could access information quickly, I kept banner heights short so that content remained immediately visible on page load.
Initial Images & Feedback
The initial images shortlisted were very cool tone, polished, and abstract as they were mainly science-lab related images with blue tint.

Feedback:
-
For the image, it can be abstract and ideally I would not prefer people in the picture.
-
There are no chemistry-lab specific pages so Campus, Uni branding, infrastructure, student life images are preferred.
